As I walk by the corner of Dundas and Sterling,
about to enter the path,
I am overwhelmed by the memory of a woman I never knew...
My heart sinks onto itself.
I stop moving for a little while.
I look at her photograph amidts the candles and prayers and tibetan flags and breathe in the life I was given, as I remind myself that all I have is this moment.
And in this moment, as the sweet stillness of percussions reverberates in my bones, the moon glimpsing between ephemeral clouds of this sugary December breeze, I connect with all the love that has touched my flesh over these last 38 years.
My friends, my lovers, my clan, my soul-brothers and sisters on the road to surrender...
I am grateful for you.
For it is you who fill my birthright to freedom,
You who fill my frame with light,
You who give my heart rhythm to beat so eloquently
And you who connect me to my dancing feet and hips.
Rest in peace Jenna.
Thank you for the gift of yourself.
In love and light
Genevieve
